Airspace Over Moore, Oklahoma Shut Down To Allow Tornado Relief Aircraft To Land

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has stopped flights over Moore County, Oklahoma, to allow relief aircraft to operate after a deadly tornado struck the area Monday, killing at least 24 people.

According to FlightStats.com, four flights scheduled to depart from nearby Oklahoma City's Will Rogers World Airport have been cancelled, and four others are reporting two-hour delays.

The temporary flight restrictions, which cover a three-nautical mile radius around the area, will be in effect until further notice. The FAA order reads:

ONLY RELIEF AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS UNDER DIRECTION OF OKLAHOMA CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT ARE AUTHORIZED IN THE AIRSPACE AT AND BELOW

[Note: We have corrected an earlier report that the entire airport was closed.]
